Quotation from Jim's last sermon

"Jesus is a lover of sinful people. I didn't say He loves the sin, [I said] He loves the person. You can never lose God's love by how bad you mess up. But you can absolutely tick God off by being a self righteous, hypocritical, judgemental Christ-follower condeming others."

That is so powerful! I was just listening to the podcast of his sermon from last Sunday, and wow did I need to hear that again!

I can't afford to ride!

My bike is in the shop AGAIN! It was just in last week to get some work done on the back brake to the tune of $40, and a week ago my tire pump fell out of a hole in my old dilapidated pack at a cost of $35, and a new pack at $110. and now i think my derailleur is all janked up, and a new x-9 runs close to a hundred. what the crap??? how is all this happening right now when i NEED to be saving money the most, and i'm trying to pinch pennies like crazy???

and that doesn't even begin to mention the flat tires, broken chains, and other smaller repairs.

and my bike was running so well for the last several months... i guess i should have known it couldn't last...

i may need to take up running. i can't afford to keep fixing my bike.

Note: This was originally a topic I posted on the singletracks.com forums. Go here to check out the replies and the resolution.

Prayer and Fervency

Quotations from E.M. Bounds' The Necessity of Prayer.

"Prayers must be red hot. It is the fervent prayer that is effectual and that availeth."

"It takes fire to make prayers go."

Speaking of the withering of the fig tree, and Jesus proclaiming that with faith you can literally move mountains:

"When a Christian believer attains to faith of such magnificent proportions as these, he steps into the realm of implicit trust. He stands without a tremor on the apex of his spiritual outreaching. He has attained faith's veritable top stone, which is unswerving, unalterable, unalienable trust in the power of the living God."

INCREDIBLE!

Compass Church BRINGING THE HEAT!!

Jim brought the heat today!! Holy crap he was up front and seriously IN YOUR FACE! Don't remember if I've ever seen him this ticked (maybe at the bloggers twisting his words... that was intense) but man was he right on!

He has gotten ME riled up about Jesus being up front, not pulling any punches, and being BOLD and not mild! We are not called to mild christianity! (Even though that wasn't necesarily the point of Jim's message. But he definitely was NOT mild today!!)

The closer I draw to God and the more passionate I get and feel about loving Him, the more I feel he lays on my heart to say. I try to speak only when I have something to say, but the closer I stand to Christ, the more I feel given to say. So more words may be coming off of my tongue in the coming weeks and months.

Let's step up and lend a hand instead of pointing a finger!

Why sometimes we suck at life... but how we keep striving to seek His face

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

"My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness."

Sweet Verses

Some sweet verses from my quiet time today:

Psalm 84:2 2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Psalm 84:11 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

The Necessity of Prayer by E.M. Bounds

I'm currently reading The Necessity of Prayer by E. M. Bounds, and it is rocking my socks off! The guy was incredible, and so deep! My pastor from Montana, Ron Youde, owned this book previously and marked it up a good bit when he read through it, so it is interesting to look at his markings.

I highly recommend this read!
