I've totally got a love/hate relationship with college. I love when it's a mental challenge and I hate when it's just a lot of busy work. I love class, but I hate having to squeeze in work around it so that it feels like I never have any time off. I enjoy the progress of it all, but I want to be able to move on to an interesting career right now.
Oh the duality of it all!

Success! In procrastination
I have succeeded in procrastinating, yet again, for the past hour+ this morning. Congratulations to me! Will I ever get off my butt and get anything accomplished?
On a side note, part of my procrastination is due to me rationalizing it by the fact that I have to work this afternoon. Don't know what the logic is there... but it's there somewhere.

I would rather write blog posts than my philosophy midterm
Well it is quite true: I would rather write blog posts than my philosophy midterm. I have a 7 page paper that I should be writing for philosophy class, but I'm procrastinating. My mind is consumed with trying to overcome the formidable obstacles between no-name blogger and famous professional blogger. It is going to be a long, long journey my friends. Why I can't get it out of my head, I don't know. Maybe that's just the way I am.
Writing about yourself and what you think, what you feel, what experiences you've had, and what your opinions are is SO much easier than trying to draft a 7 page research-oriented quotation-laden paper about a myriad of philisophical topics that aren't much more than abstract thoughts pinballing around inside my head.
That and I'm good at procrastinating.
But procrastination is the last thing I need to be doing, because with this new job and all, I have so little time to work with that it's not even funny. The least I could be doing is reading some of my philosophy book in order to get a better grip on everything that's going on, and to catch up on all the reading that I missed.
Dang midterm paper.
Why couldn't we just have a test? Although I suppose having a take-home paper should be easier, the simple magnitude required from us is staggering.
Oh well, I should get back down on it. Later.
PS read my main blog at http://gregridestrails.blogspot.com/

Currently Reading: "The Philosophical Quest: a Cross-Cultural Reader"

Currently Reading: The Philosophical Quest: a Cross-Cultural Reader.
It has some pretty heady stuff in it, that's for sure. I've really been enjoying my philosophy class, though. Very stimulating discussion. Very interesting. It takes some effort to attempt to understand different peoples (philosophers) viewpoints.

Finished reading: "How to Stay Christian in College"
How to Stay Christian in CollegeClick here for my first post about this book.
This book did prove to be an easy-to-understand guide to college life. I definitely recommend it to Christians entering college as freshmen, as well as new Christian converts currently in college.
However, I do not think this book is in depth or authoritative enough on its own to stand up against all the rigors of differing opinions that will be thrown at you in a secular university. But still it is a good starting point, and may whet your appetite to do more personal research in pursuit of truth.

South Carolina
I'm heading over to South Carolina tonight after youth group. Gonna hit up some gnarly singletrack over the next couple of days, read my bible and some other books, and just take a break from the internet, work, responsibilities, and people. It's going to be amazing!
And it's going to be too short.
And it's going to be too short.

Currently studying
Currently: studying biology and apologetics at the same time... hoping i have enough time to gather good information at a sufficient rate to refute all of the bad science. but with a secular TEXTBOOK THAT CONTRADICTS ITSELF, it's not too hard.

Lethargy
Lethargy: the quality or state of being drowsy and dull, listless and unenergetic, or indifferent and lazy; apathetic or sluggish inactivity.
(from dictionary.com)
We can not live our lives in state of television-induced lethargy.
American Lethargy: More Contagious than the Swine Flu

The Horrors of Writing
I hate forcing out an essay... just hate it. But that's the way life goes. Nothing ever happens just like you plan on it happening. No, you've always got to be on your toes. That's the way life goes.
And it is hard. Yes, Life is hard. That is life. That is writing.

GSC starts tomorrow!
Classes officially start tomorrow at Gainesville! I am so excited about going back to school, its pretty ridiculous! I don't have class until Tuesday, so I've got an extra day to wait... but it is going to be so exciting to get at it! I wish I didn't have to work though, and all I had to do was class, studying, ministry, wedding planning, biking, and Summer time (of course). But I have to work in there too... oh well. That's my life, haha!
So yeh yeh for college getting started back up!

Practice Makes Perfect
Practice makes perfect. How many times has your mom or your coach told you that? But it is so true: the more you practice something, the better you get at it. This holds true across a vast spectrum of activities. If you practice mountain biking all the time, you are going to end up riding farther, faster, and more skillfully than you have ever done. If you practice studying at school, you are going to get really good grades. If you practice being diligent at work, you are going to be a hardworker, and people are going to notice.
Conversely, if you practice sitting in front of the TV every night, you are going to get fat. If you practice putting off your homework enough, it won't get done. If you call in sick to work all the time, your boss is going to have a very bad opinion of you.
In the most important realm of our lives, however, this rule: "Practice makes perfect" still applies. If you practice praying your guts out and seeking God's will, your heart is going to be transformed to mirror His will! But if you practice putting other things in front of God, distracting yourself with the things of this world (entertainment, sports, etc), you will wind up being very good at straying far from God.
People, this is the issue: practice following Jesus, and you will get good at it! Practice wandering away, and you will get good at that too.
